Inequality Workshop

Department of Sociology

Washington State University

The Inequality Workshop is an informal gathering of sociology graduate students and faculty.  We meet 3-4 times a semester to discuss student research on any aspect of social inequality.

Workshop Main Goals:

1.  support graduate student research

2.  provide students the opportunity to practice giving conference-style presentations

3.  expose students to the work of their peers

4.  provide a forum where students can learn to give and receive constructive feedback

Workshop Format:

Students interested in presenting their work in the workshop should contact Julie Kmec  (jkmec@wsu.edu).   On the week that you are scheduled to present, you'll provide the workshop with a draft of your manuscript (in any stage of development) and than on the day of the workshop, you'll give a 10-15 minute conference-style presentation of your work.  Workshop attendees will have read your work and will be ready to discuss the work with you.

Past workshop participants have gone on to publish their work, turn their presentations into Masters' theses or dissertations, present their work at conferences, and receive awards from regional competitions.
