About me

I was born and raised in Russia. I completed my M.S. in Theoretical physics in 1993 and entered the graduate program in psychology at Yaroslavl State University (Russia). In 1999, when an extended period of ideological hostility between Russia and the USA was gone, I came to the USA to get my advanced degree in sociology. In 2002, I completed my M.S. in sociology at Clemson University,  and in 2009, I received a doctoral degree in sociology from Washington State University.

Besides sociology, I enjoy sport, music and art. When I have time, I devote it to my recently discovered passion for painting. You can see some of my  paintings here (click on image to enlarge).

I am married to Nikolay Ponomarev, who is a senior research programmer at Social and Economic Sciences Research Center at Washington State University.
